Do You Dare Try This 24-Hour No Complaint Challenge? Most People Can't Do It

Anyone can do it, all you have to do is try.

Would you be able to go for an entire day without complaining? Take on the 24 hour no complaint challenge and find out.

Complaining is something that comes very naturally to us. Why do you think we complain? For some, we believe that it will make us feel better.

In actuality, not only do we end up feeling worse, in the long run, it adversely affects our mental and physical health.

You're not the only one complaining. Even motivational speakers and life coaches complain!

Even Ruchi Parekh, our resident life coach, admits that she is a complainer from time to time.

"I don't consider myself a huge complainer, but I know I do my fair share of whining on a daily basis, so I decided to challenge myself not to complain for 24 hours," she said.

This is her experience:

It seemed easy enough. After all, for a good chunk of that time, I'd be asleep anyway. However, it was not as easy as I thought it would be.

It turns out that I do a lot more complaining than I realised. It wasn't until I really started paying attention to what I was saying, thinking, and acting did I start to see how much negativity I was actually putting out into the world.

Little things like, “Gosh, I have too much to do and too little time”, “why am I fat?”, “why haven’t the holidays come yet?”. These seem trivial but they add up.

Every time you complain, you're putting negative energy into the world and into your life.

For those who strive to live a happy and positive life, this is not the best thing to do.

"The more you complain about your life (even if it's in your mind), the less space you leave for positive thoughts that help you move forward in life," Ruchi adds.

When you complain, your body releases a stress hormone called cortisol. Cortisol propels you into fight-or-flight mode, which isn't good for your body in the long run.

In flight-or-fight mode, your blood pressure and blood sugar rise so you can escape or defend yourself if needed. This makes you more susceptible to diabetes, obesity, high cholesterol, heart disease, and even strokes.

The Solution to Complaining

So, this is what Ruchi recommends to reduce the habit of complaining:

1. Count your blessings

Focus on all that you already have instead of what you do not. Be grateful for what you have.

2. Focus on the present moment

Very often we end up complaining about something in the past or about something that may happen. Complaining about something already finished or complaining about something in anticipation of it happening is a complete waste of precious time and energy.

Instead, focus on the present and appreciate what you have going on for you (reiterating point 1).

3. Take action

At times we end up complaining because we are not ready to accept a situation or adapt to it. It is easier to complain about feeling cold rather than grabbing a blanket. And for situations not in our control, acceptance helps a lot. If you can’t change it, let it go. If you can, then take action.

After all, there's no point in complaining for hours on end and never having fixed the problem. Wouldn't it be best if you could find solutions to your problems rather than wasting time complaining about them?

The 24 hour no complaint challenge

24 hours may not seem like a very long time to challenge yourself to do something like that, but it is indeed the first step towards the right direction.

"As I made it through the 24 hours of attempting to be complaint-free, it became very clear to me that I needed to change some of my thought patterns and habits in order to create a more positive environment for myself. I also found myself smiling more and positive vibes surrounded me," Ruchi shared.

So are you ready for the challenge? Can you go 24 hours without complaining?
