Every year, there is an auspicious time to deposit money in banks for Chinese New Year. This year, Li Chun falls on Feb 4.
Every year, the Chinese will choose an auspicious time to deposit money into their bank accounts on Lichun day.
Lichun signifies the beginning of spring. It is believed that when you choose an auspicious time to depositing money into bank accounts on Lichun, you will receive good fortune for the rest of the year.
The first day of Chinese New Year in 2018 is on February 16, but Lichun this year falls on February 4.
Every year, various websites will calculate the auspicious time to deposit money on Lichun day for each of the 12 zodiacs.
The timetable will then show 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac and its corresponding auspicious time to deposit money in the bank.
This year, SkillsHub, Feng Shui Beginner and Ezbuy Singapore have released their timetables.
For SkillsHub, auspicious times are shown in orange, while the "VERY auspicious time to deposit money" is shown in red.
For Ezbuy Singapore, the auspicious times are shown in white text while the very auspicious times are reflected in gold text.
The Feng Shui Beginner table is in English, making it easier for us "bananas" to understand it.
Last year, on Lichun day, long queues formed at banks and cash deposit machines across Singapore from as early as 8AM.
8 also happens to be the luckiest number in Chinese culture, signifying prosperity and success. The number eight in Chinese is "pa" which sounds like "fa", which means fortune.
Some who follow these customs religiously will also be depositing their money into banks with eight in the amount.
Other lucky numbers include: 2, 3, 6 and 9. Numbers that can be both lucky and unlucky depending on its context are 5 and 7.
The one number to totally avoid is 4, as it sounds like "death" in Mandarin.
