Getting engaged is something many women look forward to. Some look forward to this exciting time because they get to spend the rest of their lives with their dream man. Other women are looking at other factors – like not getting disappointed with the engagement ring.
Some women will not admit it, but the ring is an important part of the engagement process to them. Though this shouldn’t be the case, it is often the highlight of the relationship.
However, some women take it a tad too far by rejecting proposals because the ring is too small or if they receive the ugliest engagement ring.
This woman, though, got a proper diamond ring that was not hideous. Yet, she had some complaints.
Was there any reason for her to be disappointed with the engagement ring given to her?
Not at all. And after seeing the ring, she said it fit and it fit a similar style she would have picked. But yet she was disappointed with the engagement ring.
She goes on a rant about how horrible and tacky the ring is. She argues her expectation was completely betrayed.
Now common etiquette when it comes to how much you spend on an engagement ring states guys spend a month to three months’ salary. Which leads to this disgruntled bride-to-be to look down on the price tag of her new ring.
The $1,674 cost was “a lot less than I would have imagined he would have spent on such a significant piece of jewellery”.
She does admit that “he’ll be disappointed in me for making a fuss about it when, in his eyes, there’s nothing actually wrong with it rather than being disappointed that I’m not truly happy with it”.
And in fact, she reveals one of his work colleagues advised him “if she makes it all about the ring, then she’s not the girl for you”.
She’s posted this on Mumsnet to get some general opinions, and hopefully some sympathetic responses.
Be careful about what you wished for
“Has anyone else been in this situation? What did you do?” she wrote.
However, she was not given advise nor did anyone side with her. Netizens berated her for her materialistic attitude towards marriage.
Probably due to her embarrassment, her post has since been deleted from Mumsnet.
So what do you think? Should she have been disappointed with the engagement ring? We think not.
