She was attacked just 50 metres away from her workplace...
A teenager in Bukit Tengah, Malaysia was left with serious injuries while being robbed — the Malaysian girl stabbed in face. The 19-year-old waitress had just finished her shift and was walking through a dark alleyway when she was mugged.
She was attacked at 9:30 pm on May 8. The victim was on her way to a car park, which was located around 50 metres away from her workplace, reports The Star Online.
The thief tried grabbing her handbag, but the girl resisted, which led to a short struggle. The thief then stabbed her in the face and ran off with her things.
A video taken shortly after the incident shows the victim covered in blood, the knife still lodged in her cheek. She is assisted by police to the curb, where she sits down calmly. In the footage, she appears to be in shock.
The victim, who remains unnamed, was rushed to the nearby Bukit Mertajam hospital. Apart from her right cheek, she also sustained injuries to her abdomen and neck.
Police are now searching for a ''well-built man'' after the attack.
Central Seberang Prai OCPD Assistant Commissioner, Mr Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid, said: ''A check at the scene showed that although the car park is located behind a commercial centre, there are street lights at the scene.
'We are collecting the CCTV recordings near the scene to track down the suspect. We are also looking for an eyewitness to assist us in the investigation.'
In the unfortunate event that you get mugged, here are a few things you can do to stay safe.
In situations like these, choosing flight over fight is the smart thing to do. Try to look for escape routes and run away at the first chance.
Again, don't fight unless you absolutely have to. Even if you've got a black belt in kicking ass, you don't know what kind of weapons your attacker may be carrying. Even the strongest karate chop is no match for a gun.
Many self-defence experts recommend throwing your wallet in one direction so you can make your escape. Your focus should be getting away from this situation unscathed, not getting revenge.
Take note of these things: sex, clothing colour, clothing headwear, and your attacker's direction of flight. Remember these details so you can give the police an accurate report later on.
Once the attacker leaves (or once you've escaped), call the police immediately. Tell them the details they'll need to find the attacker. You would also need to file a report. The sooner this is done, the more likely it is that the police will be able to catch your attacker.
