Michele Gumabao Finishes As Top 15 Finalist By Bringing Brawns, Brains And Beauty To The Big Stage
What a promising future for this young volleyball star!
Michele Gumabao has done the Philippines proud by finishing as a Top 15 Finalist in Miss Globe 2018. Representing the Philippines, she wasn’t able to further after the Top 5 Finalists were announced, but she didn’t return home empty-handed. She bagged the Miss Social Media and Miss Dream Girl awards as voted by the public, and we completely agree!
In her Facebook post after the competition, Michele was in good spirits. Reflecting on her journey in an Instagram post, she said:
“I’ve learned a lot being here for two weeks! I’ve always known that in life there are wins and there are losses, but God knows what’s best for us. I trust in Him to take me further.”
Her Nat Manilag-designed dress was an intricate affair and turned many heads. Manilag described it as “sheer tulle pencil-cut with knee-high slit and ball skirt train modern Filipiniana with fully embellished hand embroidery details”. Michele mentioned in a video her personal input in how she wanted the final look.
“I still wanted to maintain that terno which is the national outfit, national costume. You always see that terno, called also a Filipiniana. And I wanted to have a twist, and Nat thought of having a sarimanok”.
China’s Yu Yizhou was crowned the ultimate winner of Miss Globe 2018, held in Albania.
Michele Gumabao – star on and off the court
Michele is a volleyball star. Born in California, she played for De La Salle University from 2010 to 2013. She was so good, they called her the Best Blocker in seasons 73 and 74!
Currently, she plays for Creamline Cool Smashers in the Philippines’ Premier Volleyball League.
The last and only time a Filipina won Miss Globe was Ann Colis in 2015.
Not disheartened, she took the result on the chin.
“Going home to my country with this huge smile on my face! I’ve learned a lot being here for 2 weeks! Ive always known that in life there are wins and there are losses, but God knows what’s best for us”
And she knew she had the full backing of the Philippines!
“I gave my best and I know it was good enough because I had the whole Philippines believing in me! At the end of the day, it is what it is ?? BLUE FOR PEACE”
But at the end of the day, you can’t take volleyball out of the 26-year-old.
“Volleyball naman ang labanan”.
Well done to Michele Gumabao, Miss Globe Philippines 2018!
