Swedish Airline Put 34 Passengers On The Wrong Flight And Only Realised It After Landing

Apparently, the airline had not communicated the change to the airport or its passengers.

Have you ever gotten onto a flight, trusting the crew has everything under control and you will reach your intended destination with no issues?

Hmm, isn't that pretty much every flight?

Most of the time, yes, that is the case. But in the case of a Swedish flight on Nextjet, the country's largest airline, passengers had a little surprise waiting for them when they landed.

On 12 March 2018, 34 passengers in Sundsvall, were informed that their flight to Gothenburg was delayed due to bad weather conditions.

The original flight was scheduled at 5pm, going to Gothenburg, on the west coast of the country.

Not thinking too much about it, passengers got on the next flight at 8pm, and of course, had their boarding passes routinely scanned by the cabin crew before they left Sundsvall.

But the flight to Gothenburg was actually cancelled, and not delayed!

According to The Local, a Swedish news site, this information was not communicated to both Sundsvall Airport and the passengers onboard.

Aftonbladet also reported that Henning Lindberg, Nextjet's marketing manager, said the passengers were never going to make it to Gothenburg on that night due to weather conditions anyway.

So to every passenger's surprise, when the plane landed, they ended up in the far north side of Sweden in Luleå, over 1,200km away from Gothenburg.

One of the passengers, Roger Leirvik told Aftonbladet that he was in Sundsvall for a business trip. When he realised they landed in Luleå, he wasn't too concerned about it.

"I just laughed, what can you do?" Roger said.

Henning told Aflonbladet that the 34 passengers will be compensated with free accommodation in Luleå.

On top of that, some other passengers who were supposed to go to Luleå were left behind instead, after being told their flight was cancelled.

Nextjet apologised for the miscommunication between the airline and Sundsvall airport.

"It appears to have been a huge miss in communications between the airport in Sundsvall and us," Henning said.

The affected passengers were flown to Gothenburg the next day.
