When you think of beauty queens, Rachel Peters quickly comes to mind. Miss Universe Philippines 2017 may not have grabbed the final crown, but she’s top spot in our hearts. Even more so when we see her hard-working nature combined with her passion in her coffee shop, Bake by Hideout.
This might come as an interesting career move by some. But it’s less known that the British-Filipino model learned how to be a barista while she was in Melbourne, Australia. While studying for her Bachelor’s degree in Business, Tourism, and Events from La Trobe University, she honed the craft of making good coffee to earn some side money. She wasn’t always a model!
After her successful run at Miss Universe 2017 where she was in the top 10 finalists, she combined her love for the beach with her entrepreneurial nous. With an International Baccalaureate degree from British International School, Phuket in Thailand. She’s got smarts as well as looks!
Bake by Hideout combines coffee, cake, and comfort
In fact, Rachel had little interest in beauty pageants as she grew up.
When asked how she decided on the name, she told ABS CBN “Bake is pretty much like me. Baked by the sun”.
As she told Cosmo, she considers the beach as her “happy place”. And it seems Siargao has its charm, as many models seem to flock to this sun-kissed island with the white powdery beaches. So much so, that she even developed a knack for surfing and “Siargao is magic”.
Rachel partnered up with her boyfriend, Camarines Sur provincial governor Miguel Luis “Migz” Villafuerte. And they combined all of the best elements of Siargao into a coffee shop. You can sit and just enjoy the view under the cool shade, or tuck into a hearty lunch.
The cafe is appropriately designed with a rustic feel with wide, open spaces and glass windows to let all the sunlight pour in. The beautifully appointed decor matches the owner.
From beauty to baking, Rachel Peters continues to surprise with her array of talents! We’ll be sure to swing by next time we’re in Siargao!
