Why Sonia Wong Left The Legal Industry To Start A Company

What is it you do?

I do Events & Marketing for Brickhouse Creations, a company I formed with my partner.

What is the most surprising thing about you that most people don’t know?

Before running my own company, I practised as a lawyer for a few years. Despite the security and respectability of a legal career, I was not happy at all. I felt trapped in an uninspiring environment and found it difficult to be myself. I lost the confidence and energy I once had.

What’s a typical day like in your life?

Emails! Emails! Emails!

What’s the hardest thing you have had to deal with in your life?

Quitting law and proving to people around me that I was capable of starting my own company.

What motivates you to keep going when the going gets tough?

How do you relax when you’re not working?

Watching food documentaries.

What tools do you use that are indispensable? What can you not live without?

My network and support system.

What books/documentaries would you recommend for someone who’d like to go into [your field]?

Molly's Game. Her ability to command a room full of egoistic men and drive for success is ever inspiring.

What projects are you working on at the moment?

We are building a media platform with real content.

Your all-time favourite song?

Any song by Beyonce!

If you could give advice to your younger self, what would it be?

Do what your heart tells you to, but make sure you have a solid foundation, knowledge and skills to fall back on.
